About Skylight

New York City’s built environment is responsible for two-thirds of our greenhouse gas emissions. We need to start cutting carbon emissions now, but there are no one-size-fits-all solutions for our diverse housing stock.

Still, many early adopters are taking on decarbonization work, doing their part to retrofit our 20th-century city for the modern world. Skylight documents how these New Yorkers are increasing efficiency and switching to clean energy in their own homes. Our work brings together residents from across the city to share the solutions they have found, while also encouraging one another to experiment and push forward.

Together, we can help New York City meet its clean energy goals, and pave a path for the rest of the world to follow.
